Shore Leave

I've been in a minor holding pattern of late.

A much needed one and only summer vacation had to happen and actually trying to squeeze something like that in with two busy kids is never easy.  We did finally make it happen and I've shared a few spontaneous and picturesque shots here with you captured on the fly from the trusty iPhone. I enjoyed letting go as you can see judging by my captures of the sky while laying in the sand.  Really - shy shots?  I know.  I remember looking up and thinking - cool.  I enjoy getting caught and lost in the simple things.  Lana Del Rey may have been playing.  It can get very dreamy and relaxed listening to Lana.

I'm glad I did let go for a little while. It is healthy.  I'm really not the biggest beach person either but it was fun.  Drunks studs chased their beer cans into the ocean.  A seagull passed by and I captured him in the blink of an eye.  It was so bright I didn't even know how well the shot came out until much later.  We had a lost Corgi hang with us at the beach.  Jellyfish.  Seals.  Sandwiches.  Keebler cookies.  William Shatner's Memories and Back To Frank Black: A Return To Chris Carter's Millennium.  Yep, life was pretty good.

Getting kick started on the writing front after going limp on the beach is another matter. I always want to put something of quality together for you and that sometimes takes longer than I would like especially when I need to get my pulse back.

I actually did write up two reviews over the course of this little vacation and those will be headed your way soon. I watched two films with my niece and nephews (triplets) so they probably aren't quite what you'd expect, but they will hopefully be fun reads.

To compound a busy week of getting to a point of relaxation I had work done on my house and that actually took a great deal of effort to prep before and after vacation, which slowed me down further.  Still, I'm getting there.

I'm very sad to see the summer coming to an end - a massive summer that included great moments playing baseball with my son, watching my daughter make me laugh and visits to the theatre to see films like the wonderful Pacific Rim (2013) twice.  I'm hoping to see Elysium soon, but free time is running out again.

I really loved this summer though. As Lana Del Rey sings on her first album, Summertime Sadness. And did you know I really loved Pacific Rim?

That said, looking forward to more blog posts. :)

Nantucket, aye? Nice place. I'm over here on the West Coast -- Northern California. A little different. We've got kaiju walls.

Thanks Roman my friend!

Nice work Cannon! I figured there was enough to guess where our journey took us. I hope those walls are strong enough! ;)

Good to see you're a fan of Lana Del Rey as well. I really dig her music - it is quite atmospheric and rather fitting for the summer.

Beautiful pics man, looks like a sleepy quiet town...something you'd see in Steven Spielberg film or...maybe a Stephen King one?

Amen J.D. - on the Lana front. I absolutely love her stuff. I have actually thought about a post here on her. She's amazing. I have all her stuff and I've liked her almost since day one.

Only now, today, are others in my house coming around to Lana.

She's like an old throwback.

L13. Great time tks. Just chilled.

Franco. Tks man. It was busy. Quieter on off season and that is actually a lot of fun when its quiet. But, you find the quiet spots.

And, you're close, Spielberg actually filmed a good portion of Jaws in these here parts.

I wish someone would take the book, Tradgedy of The Whaleship Essex and make it a motion picture. It's a phenomenal story and would make an AMAZING film. It begins and ends in Nantucket and takes place mostly at sea.

Looks pretty nice and scenic, glad you could get away and enjoy some down time, which I think we all need to recharge the batteries. I feel like I haven't seen enough of the U.S. & abroad too--something I'd like to change once I get a bit more in a position to do so.

Sounds like a great idea El Vox! I would enjoy something like that too if I wasn't so tied down.

Btw, I saw War of The Worlds years ago in that Starlight theatre. It's the only movie I saw on the island. I tried to see The Wolverine but it had one showing on one night only.

It definitely doesn't operate like most cinemas. : )

Yes! She certainly is a throwback and has a very David Lynchian vibe to her music, which doesn't hurt that she also did a cover of "Blue Velvet." I have the deluxe edition of BORN TO DIE. I also really like a lot of her videos, esp. the long version of "Ride," which is incredible cinematic. She has a very alluring presence that goes well with her voice. I also love the arrangements of a lot of her songs - they have a very dreamy quality to them.

I would really enjoy reading a post with your thoughts and observations on her music!

I have the deluxe edition as well J.D. and that version of the Lynchian-like Blue Velvet is killer including the video.

Twin Peakish is a good description of this chick. Ride is such a great video as is Video Games and others.

She's gorgeous to boot. She's very unique out there right now - very special. I like her music A LOT! Cheers pal.
