Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic 5th Anniversary! (A Five Year Mission)

I actually kind of missed the moment.  I was so busy I didn't even take time to mark the event that was Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic's five year anniversary/ birthday.  WOW!  It's hard to believe I've been at this since October of 2007.

October was a pretty hectic month and November isn't much better so far, but I thought I would simply mark the milestone of my five-year mission.  I remember scoffing at the idea that I might make it five months so five years is something of an accomplishment.  If I'm honest with myself I would admit I've always likened myself to something of a strong starter.  Finishing strong is much more challenging.  It's something I try to hold my feet to the fire on as I've grown older.

The Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic blog has opened many doors along the way.  It's incredible really.  I've met many bright, articulate and kind people here.  You know who you are.  The fact that you have taken time out to write from time to time on this journey with me means a great deal.  The blog has given me the necessary canvas with which to express myself, find my voice and write and do so at my own pace.  I'm grateful for that freedom.

It's rather insignificant in the big scope of things, but I do enjoy this special place in that vast universe of ideas and hope to continue writing. Perhaps we'll be here to mark a ten year anniversary somewhere down the road.

At this point, there are 74 loyal readers.  I've published 712 posts in all with roughly 140 posts a year.  Time restraints certainly restrict my hopes for a more prolific outlet, but as long as the quality is there I'll make every effort to keep doing it.

My sincere appreciation to those who visit Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic regularly and enjoy stopping here. I do thank you and I am humbled.  We shall continue boldly going.

Congratulations on five years of musing, Sci-Fi Fanatic!

You may not be the most prolific blogger, but you are certainly the most consistent in regards to quality. Your posts on Star Trek TOS are something that I really look forward to, as they help me to reexamine my opinions and perspective on the TV series that made me realize that science fiction was more than just cool spaceships and scary aliens (although ST:TOS certainly had plenty of both). I truly admire your ability to recap each episode’s story, while commenting on what you thought were the strengths and sometimes weaknesses of them.

While I don’t comment on all of your posts – even some of the non-sci-fi posts that you sneak in – I do read and enjoy every one of them. You seem to have carved out a niche in the blog ‘o sphere as one of the predominant writers of classic science fiction television and cinema, but I for one still enjoy it when you also post your opinions of more recent science fiction fare. I’m sure time is an issue in regard to posting current films and TV (I know it is with me at GOTG!), but I just wanted you to know that I’m one of your followers that enjoys the contemporary stuff as well.

Keep writing Musing of a Sci-Fi Fanatic and I’ll keep reading! Here’s to another five years of MoaS-FF! Hopefully that will allow you enough time to finish reviewing the first season of STR:TOS. Sorry… I couldn’t resist.

Congrats on your 5th birthday. Only just discovered your site a few months ago and it's now one of my favourites. Full of really in-depth detailed reviews. Here's to another 5!

Gosh Doc thank you! Very kind words and much appreciated coming from you someone who continues to explore strange new worlds over at Guardians Of The Genre.

You see you've inspired me to reboot my look at the next entry in ST:TOS S1, The Menagerie, coming soon.

But you're right, I'm working through that first season of Star Trek at a snail's pace so I probably will need the next five years. : )

I think it's because, personally, I hold that series in such reverence. I completely revere it and want to do it justice and yet part of me feels like it's probably been written to death so what could I possibly offer on the subject? But I just so adore the original Star Trek, I want to approach it with my very best efforts. Still, I may not always be successful.

Thank you again DOC!
