Special Agent Gillian Anderson

Chris Carter had it right selecting Gillian Anderson for the role of Special Agent Dana Scully.

There were plenty of people Carter fought every step of the way in his selection of Anderson for The X-Files.

Nine seasons later and Carter's choice proved to be the right one.

Gillian Anderson was special and she was Special Agent Dana Scully. It wouldn't have been the same without her.

Well said. I couldn't agree more. Gillian Anderson is an amazing actress, and a perfect Scully. It's hard to believe the suits at Fox didn't want her for the part. She's so damn smart, and so damn gorgeous.

best,
JKM

I second JKM's assessment! It is interesting to see how Scully's character develops over the seasons going from skeptic to believer and Anderson did such a good job of showing this natural progression.

She was indeed a natural and if there were any doubts about her performance I thought she really demonstarted her capabilties with her performance in Season One Beyond The Sea. She nails it!

Selecting someone like Gillian was a gutsy selection by Chris Carter. She wasn't the typical lead actress for the 90s... and especially now (I refer to those these days as pretty stick figures). But, she did have that aura of a smart character who didn't acquiesce to her male counterpart. I think J.D. hit it on the head with her progression in the series (both character-wise and physically). This reminds me I need to tee-up some X-Files episodes... and soon. Thanks, SFF.
