Gerry Anderson: On Space:1999

"It was science fiction not science prediction.
Nor was it the Open University.
I was always very careful that whatever we put on the screen should be believable.
There's a big difference between something being believable and something being scientifically accurate.
It was my imagination put into 3-D for the purpose of entertaining people."

-Gerry Anderson, What Made Thunderbirds Go! The Authorized Biography Of Gerry Anderson, P. 232-

Once upon a time there was a regular friday feature here at Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic dubbed FAB FRIDAY.

So, for today anyway, it's FAB FRIDAY and all things wonderful from the world of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

The late Gerry Anderson expressed the aforementioned sentiment in direct response to criticism by author Isaac Asimov concerning Space:1999 as abundant in "unscientific content."

Indeed Space:1999 was loaded with imagination and when Space:1999 was ahead of its time in the prediction department that was, as they say, a bonus.

Scientific accuracy or not, and it had its moments, Space:1999 offered a strangely fantastic and unique approach to the science fiction universe.
