Isao Takahata (1935-2018)

Say no more. Studio Ghibli's one and only Isao Takahata passed this mortal coil in April 2018.

I would be remiss not to mention this tremendous loss to the animation world who passed away the same day as actor Tim O'Connor (Buck Rogers In The 25th Century), April 4th 2018. I can only say this was a remarkable animator and story teller. His truly moving work will remain forever particularly Grave Of The Fireflies (1988) and Only Yesterday (1991). The former will bring you to tears.

Apart from also directing Pom Poko (1994), My Neighbors The Yamadas (1999) and The Tale Of Princess Kaguya (2013) and others he also produced.

Production credits included working with his Studio Ghibli colleague, friend and co-founder Hayao Miyazaki on Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind (1984) and Castle In The Sky (1986).

He would later produce Dutch animator Michael Dudok de Wit's gorgeous and moving The Red Turtle. It would be Takahata's final stamp on the world of animation.

Isao Takahata was 82.
