Blogging Lately And Schooled By The Boy Wonder

As you are fully aware dear readers, I am fully engaged and committed to Fringe at the moment.  She is indeed by muse.  I don't intend on letting that girl go until I complete the entirety of Season One.  That's a promise.

It's funny, but as a writer, and as many of you know yourselves, the desire and appetite to write is a passion and like passions it can certainly run hot and cold.  That absolutely voracious hunger to write can be a fleeting thing.  Normally, my output tends to be steady, but from time to time that thirst for it can run dry and a break seems required or is inevitable.  If you're not feeling it, you can either push through it or fall back for a bit.  I tend to do the latter in short spells.

At the moment though I seem to be fairly dialed in when it comes to writing despite some weather setbacks.  (It's hard to watch anything without power.)  I'm having a lot of fun with Fringe at the moment along with a few other things that have piqued my interest and I'm writing with a real passion internally at the moment.  There's nothing more enjoyable than having that feeling.  It's not always there.  But when you are having a ball with it that is when writing feels at its best even if it's not the best work.

I have so many things I want to write about and sometimes time is a factor.  The inclement weather was helping to a point until shutting things down completely with the blizzard.

Recently, I've found uploading video clips to be a little problematic.  As a result it's forced me to kind of let go of the video clipping portion of the sci-fi entries.  It has allowed me to do two things effectively.

1. I have been able to write and complete an entry just a little bit sooner than normal.

2. I've also been able to concentrate on images to my heart's content.

That combination, minus the time needed for JPEGing, is really working for me at the moment.  We'll see where it goes, but I've been just as pleased with the entries without the video accompaniment.  Though when I return to Star Trek: The Original Series, it's going to be tough to disregard that component.

Anyway, my son, whom I affectionately refer to as The Boy Wonder was sharing some postings from his Facebook page from friends.  I wasn't all that impressed with the postings not because they were offensive.  To put it another way, the postings seemed kind of pointless and therefore appeared to be a waste of time to me.

I said, "Why did they post that?"

He replied, "I don't know. It's a snow event and they wanted to post school closings."

I said, "Well, I think they should do something more useful and productive with their time.  There are better things to do."  Just like a Dad right.

And so clearly not everyone's idea of fun and without missing a beat he says rather pointedly, "Oh, like watch Fringe and blog about it?"  Wow.

Touché Boy Wonder. Touché!

  1. Fringe season 1 is perhaps the best show I've seen in a long while and certainly one of my favorites, but season 2 turned me away from the show. I am shocked it is on season 5 (for some reason I thought it was cancelled). Perhaps it picked up again, I'm hoping.

  2. Posting comments on your daily life actives on Facebook, or the now much proffered Twitter, is a phenominum of the - to use the British term - the mobile phone generation.

I frankly get enough reality from real life, so the last thing I want to do is post on it on my Facebook page, or read my friend's postings about their real lives' either. I've been using my Facebook to post brief reviews of the books and many comics that I've been reading lately. I'm beginning to appreciate the short form more and it may influence my future blogging.

Next time The Boy Wonder implies that blogging about the artistic things you find emotionally and intellectually stimulating is a frivolous endeavor, ask him what he learned from from reading his friend's real life issues on their Facebook, or - shudder - constant text messages, if he has, or when he does get one of these dreaded mobile phones I mentioned earlier.

Fringe is definately worth any science fiction fan's time.

  3. Jason.
I loved your comment because it tempers my enthusiasm for the realities of second or third seasons.

Sometimes I've seen this second seasons be pretty terrific while others have disappointed tremendously.

I can only equate Fringe S1 to the first season of Lost. It's extremely good. I loved that second season of Lost too. It will be interesting to see how the second season sits with me.

I'll give you an example Jason. I loved the first season of Farscape. It was very strong and like Fringe got stronger and stronger as it went along. When I got to the second season of Farscape I only got through the first half and lost some interest for the time being. Apart from The Way We Weren't the episodes were good but I was not loving them. So I know very much of which you speak.

    Thanks

Great comment. I know what you mean.

I should clarify a little that my injection of humor into the post does not properly put the boy winder in context. He has a very good sense of humor. Cracks me up sometimes,

I read him your comment and he actually gets where you're coming from and he wants you to know that he is actually enjoying fringe along with me. He likes the show a lot, he wanted to know when we were watching the next one.

So he's not much of a face booker and probably enjoys my Sci Fi more than spending time on that.

So we have a young Sci Fi fan in the making.

Btw, he tells us to give up blogging. He also says that was a joke.

    These kids today.

Also... Nice to type again with warm fingers my friend eh?
