It brings me no pleasure to add to an already somber tone on this FAB FRIDAY with news from the universe of all things Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.
Actress Dolores Mantez, who portrayed Lt. Nina Barry, one of the bevvy of purple-wigged beauties, on Gerry Anderson's UFO [1970] passed away in November/ December of this year [based on differing reports].
The Liverpudlian born actress was one of the radiant beauties on the series and performed the role of Barry in twenty-three (23) of the twenty-six UFO episodes.
Her most substantive moment on the UFO series was perhaps Episode 17, Sub-Smash, whereby Barry and Commander Ed Straker, played by Ed Bishop, must survive a harrowing hour in a downed sub.
It is indeed unfortunate to report such sad news on what is normally a glorious FAB FRIDAY here at Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic, nevertheless we celebrate and recognize her contributions here on this day. Dolores Mantez certainly deserves the recognition here today for her career in British television including appearances on The Avengers [1961-1969] and Danger Man [1960-1968].
She even worked in a number of musicals including one opposite Nyree Dawn Porter who starred in Gerry Anderson's The Protectors [1972-1974]. Word of the lovely Mantez's passing marks a sad day from the world of Anderson. On a more positive note on this Mayan friday, at least we're still here and still writing to honor this fine lady.
I just read this. I'm a huge fan of *UFO* and Nina was one of my favorite characters. Remember her, we will.
