I know Prometheus is supposed to be a prequel to Alien, but I don’t think it servers the film well to compare it to Scott’s original film. Prometheus is definitely a much more ambitious film thematically than Alien. I like them both, but while they exist in the same universe, they tell very different kinds of stories.
I think the film lends itself to a discussion of the two films given its place within that universe, but the contrast is indeed stark in many respects and they are different. I don't disagree.
To me, PROMETHEUS has it both ways, it's a prequel and a stand-alone film. As the screenwriter has said, at the film's end it can really split off in two ways:
1. right into ALIEN
2. into a sequel where the surviving crew member and the android go off to find the Engineer's homeworld.

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your thoughts on it!

Hello J.D.
ReplyDeleteI must tell you, as you'll soon read, I did not see those remarks by the screenwriter, but apparently understood exactly that point. I agree.
I tried to write my reflection s on this thing down as soon as I saw the film before reading a whole lot about it.
I didn't want to influence my take on it.
Cheers for that input J.D.. I couldn't agree more.
