We Are The Champions My Friends!

Vancouver may have the excitement of filming the Stargate series and The X-Files and all kinds of great science fiction television. We'll keep the championships coming here in New England! We'll keep our fingers intact on our hands and we'll throw them up in the air! What a series! What a team! What grit, guts and fight! What hard-working mashers with real fire!

Goalie Tim Thomas was out of his frakkin' mind! 4-0! The Boston Bruins take the Stanley Cup home! Elsewhere, Boston Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett throws a one-hitter against the Rays. And who cares? Go figure. Sorry, it's been a distracting time here at Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic. Truly, to be a New England sports fan is some kind of wonderful, but as fans go we rarely get overconfident in victory. We always believe, in a weird way, that our teams will somehow find a way to lose. We are a skeptical lot. But there's been no better time to believe than now in New England sports history. This is real right?

Meanwhile, Vancouver is in full-on rioting mode. I never knew Vancouver to be the rioting type. Please, easy on those science fiction sets.

  1. Congrats to the Bruins! Well played. Given the rioting in Vancouver, all of the Canadians here in L.A. are pretty mortified (at least those on local TV).

  2. I mean did that team show up to fight the battle L13?

Wow. So happy for the die hard Bruins fans. 39 years and they took one home.

Just a fantastic game. I couldn't take my eyes off it.

  4. The Boston Bruins playing in the Stanley Cup Finals is the reason I still haven’t finished my review for Super 8 yet! I was never a huge hockey fan, but when Tim Thomas became the starting goalie in the 2007-2008 season, I got hooked!

That season, the Bruins pushed the top-seeded Canadians to seven games in the first round of the playoffs before losing. In the 2008-2009 season, The Bruins went on to have the best record in the Eastern Conference and faced the Canadians in the playoffs, defeating them in four games before losing in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference semifinals. In the 2009-2010 season The Bruins made a playoff opening round appearance against the Buffalo Sabers, which they won 4 games to 2 games. Boston became only the third team in NHL history to lose a playoff series after leading 3–0 when they lost in Game 7 to the Philadelphia Flyers!

The Bruins’ defeat of Montreal in the first round, after losing the first two games at home was a sign that this year’s Bruins might have what it takes to go all the way! The Bruins defeat of the Philidelfia Fliers in four straight games – the teamed that knocked them out of the playoffs in the same round last season – was particularly sweet! Their hard fought victory over offensive juggernaut Tampa Bay Lightning was also a sign of their perseverance and toughness! Their win in game seven in the Stanley Cup Finals over the favored Vancouver Canucks – priceless!

Now I can go back to writing my review of Super 8 – while watching the (first place) Boston Red Sox… of course.

  5. Doc!

Great retrospective. I watched the Bruins games last year as well.

Things felt different this year especially with the resulting Fliers series.

Well said on all front. Looking forward to a Red Sox championship, third of the century.

Look forward to your Super 8 review. I'm very suspect about it. I hear about how it is such a nostalgic throwback to early period Spielberg magic, but so far I have been unmoved to see it.

    Take care
