HNY 2016! (Gosh I'm Getting Old)

...Of course aren't we all.

It's another SyFy The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) marathon, which of course means it's a brand new year. Happy New Year and all the best in 2016 friends, readers and visitors (potentially from another planet).

It's an odd thing when science fiction is of little to no interest to The One To Be Pitied, but when a marathon drawing from 159 episodes of Rod Serling's classic series takes over the Syfy channel for the start of the new year the station simply doesn't move. Go figure. I suppose it makes sense for a fan of Turner Classic Movies though (TCM). If it's black and white it's on.

So I always make it a point to watch at least one episode that I haven't seen already.

Anyway, I'm almost done being a sloth (not really). I've been taking time out with that thing right out of the monster movies... kids and family. It's always great to just chill with them. I'm still squeezing in a little writing (nothing publishable quite yet), dreaming of writing a real book and generally dreaming. I spend way too much time dreaming.

Be back soon! And if you ever happen to meet me on the street one day you may be in The Twilight Zone.

Merry X-Mas

Merry X-mas and with The X-Files mini-series just around the corner for 2016, it's sure to be a happy new year indeed.

Happy holidays to you and your families. Musings Of A Sci-Fi Fanatic wishes you continued joy and health the whole new year through and I've pulled out the paint program just for you.

The Santa is out there.

American Defiance

I am on a complete Defiance binge watch for the Fourth Of July weekend---kind of fitting really.

It doesn't hurt that I have injured myself playing basketball with my son. A calf tear (level 2-3) has left me nearly immobile going into a holiday weekend. No doctors. The waiting room was packed at the hospital. That's not exactly reassuring should something serious happen. I literally turned around, went home and hit the ice relying on self-diagnosis by Internet. Looks like a doctor visit next week. Oh well. At least I have my science fiction "friends" (as The One To Be Pitied calls them) to keep me occupied until then.

What are you watching?

God bless the USA and the great American experiment!

Happy Fourth!

Hidden Easter Egg

It was right in front of me the whole time, but there are certain screen captures, and these may not be the best, whereby 7-Zark-7 looks suspiciously like an over-sized, multi-colored Easter egg. Why didn't I think of that when I was making, dipping and coloring all those eggs as a child?

On Battle Of The Planets (1978) he was often seen hanging at Center Neptune with his peeps 1-Rover-1 and others.

Get it peeps!?

Aw, Happy Easter all.

You'd Think It Was April Fool's Day

It has been quite a run of exciting news of late.

The X-Files are back on with Chris Carter returning and David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully respectively. Not to mention Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis, a.k.a. The Cigarette Smoking Man, are both on board. I mean Wow!

Another favorite TV Series is Hannibal and Season Three is shaking out to be a real treat particularly for fans of horror and those who might have enjoyed Chris Carter's Millennium (1996-1999), Directors Vincenzo Natali (Cube) and Neil Marshal (The Descent) have been joined by none other than director Guillermo del Toro. Our Pacific Rim maestro will be handling directorial chores on an episode this season. Holy cow!

Meanwhile, I'm beginning to worry we may never see the final chapter of the Evangelion film series by Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara. Never mind that fans of the classic anime are still waiting on an American release of Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo (2012). The aforementioned film has been available since November 2012. News was announced on March 31 that director/writer/animator Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia The Secret Of Blue Water, Gunbuster, His And Her Circumstances) was joining forces with Shinji Higuchi (Royal Space Force: The Wings Of Honneamise, Gamera trilogy, Attack On Titan), both founders of Studio Gainax, for the next big Godzilla film to be released by Toho in Japan. Schwing! Are you kidding me!? I'm not. That was first read on The Good, The Bad And Godzilla.

And sadly, the creator of the Pet Rock passed away Tuesday. How exactly did Gary Ross Dahl pull that off!? This proves once again we are hardly the brightest bulbs.

And now for the capper.

It was announced today that a big American studio was in negotiation to take on a live-action version of Battle Of The Planets. Industrial Light And Magic is on board for The Phoenix. No Asian actors have been tapped for the project as of yet. So get those angry letter-writing and e-mail campaigns sharpened. But word has it they have Dave Franco on retainer for the role of team leader Mark. Nick Offerman who played mustachioed Ron Swanson of Parks And Recreation (2009-2015) acclaim is set to play Tiny. Kenny Baker is pegged for 7-Zark-7 following Star Wars. The remaining cast choices are being sorted out. And yes, this last bit was hand crafted for AFD. Ah, AFD. Oh yeah it is.

Still, a blogger can dream right.

And no worries, if you bought into my AFJ. It appears Guillermo del Toro is a non-starter too. I fell hook, line and sinker. You see how sordid and twisted this day can get. Brutal I say. I'm still waiting to see if the Hideaki Anno info is false.

According to Troy Foreman as of April 2 Fox had not confirmed The Cigarette Smoking Man's William B Davis or Mitch Pileggi. So there you go. April 1st is just a horror show.

Ho Ho Ho

Merry Christmas.

It's definitely one of the nicest days of the year. No matter how old I get I never seem to tire of this day. It's right up there with Thanksgiving. Both days are definitely a chance to be grateful and celebrate. Here's to many more for all of us.

Oh, and I've broke open that state-of-the-art Paint program just to send along some Yuletide greetings.

Feliz Navidad all.
