Amazing what is on the screen given a TV-sized budget. Both are handsomely animated series.

As noted in the post, I give the edge to Knights personally because I'm a big fan of outer space type science fiction.

Nevertheless, both series divert from conventions and deliver experiences that are genuinely new to the viewer in my opinion. That is no easy task. And not only do they deliver such an experience but do so with a cohesive, credible narrative that draws you in beyond the visuals.

Great stuff - both of them!

PS. I have a few Knights episodes I'm working on. Stay tuned.SFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1031498593064294214.post-71629459189193617882015-07-15T17:23:08.330-04:002015-07-15T17:23:08.330-04:00Im dying to see Attack on Titan, I've heard so...Im dying to see Attack on Titan, I've heard so much about it, plus, the visuals look amazing. I hadn't heard of Knights of Sedonia, but then again, that's why I read The Sci-fi Fanatic, to keep up with the new and cool, it certainly looks like something I would enjoy, I love stories that take place in space...will be on the look out for both! I've been looking and was wondering if there is a site where I can order the blu-rays for KoS with English sub? I'm really interested in all the extra scenes. Maybe there is a site that allows me to watch the blu-ray episodes but I've not found it. Do you believe you can help me?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1031498593064294214.post-39794118276394362252014-12-30T09:43:48.157-05:002014-12-30T09:43:48.157-05:00Thank you El Vox.

It won't be for everyone.

I do think however you will enjoy it.

Many of the same things you are taking away from Attack On Titan don't sit quite right with me either. Knights feels a tad more mature if I can be so bold.

I would say judging by your comments that Anime may not be quite your thing and finding the right fit must prove difficult.

Yes, Miyazaki really taps into universal feelings and emotions and delivers a film and story that seems to connect on a universal level. A lot of anime doesn't seem to quite strike the balance to reach the masses I suppose.

I wasn't a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop but I can see where that series would have more universal appeal to be sure.

Anime is certainly challenging and continues to generate a good deal of reflection and analysis from me personally and it is indeed one of the many things I really love about the medium of this animation.SFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1031498593064294214.post-87230131697312269912014-12-27T14:53:11.822-05:002014-12-27T14:53:11.822-05:00Good review. I'd probably agree with you, but ...Good review. I'd probably agree with you, but I haven't seen Knights of Sidonia yet, though from what I've seen of the trailers on YT, it looks more to my taste. I think my personal taste for anime may be limited, though I still enjoy some of it, and I've tried to get into Attack on Titan, but it's a struggle for me.

For one thing, I prefer subtly (even in regular movies), and not much anime knows how to do that--not yet anyway. Perhaps where Knights vs. Titans wins in is in that area, or I hope so. In Titans their hero, Eren Yeager, always appears distressed like he just got thru chugging a pot of espresso. He's yelling, and sweat streams down his face, etc. Man, that's too over-the-top for my taste. And I think some of that stems from either the Asian culture or perhaps it's part of the "normal" anime style, but it bothers me so much that I cannot enjoy it.

I believe I read where Knights is more a hybrid of Japanese and American, but I think somewhere within that may be the formula for my taste. I think Ghibli studio has picked up on that, and made their stuff, for lack of a better word, more Disneyesque and more universally appealing to a wider American audience. But the storytelling is a bit more gentle in approach and design, and Americanized. So anyway, I feel until that happens it's going to be a struggle for me. That said though I enjoy some of it.

I did see the other day where Cowboy Bebop was released on Blu-ray, which is cool, I enjoy those too. I saw tonight on the Toon Channel that they're showing Evangelion 1.11 & 2.22. I'm setting the VCR for that. El Voxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05985563041511492981noreply@blogger.com
